1. The Shift to High-Barrier Monomaterial Structures

The global plastic packaging and printing industry is experiencing an accelerated transition driven by circular economy mandates and strict regional waste regulations (such as the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation - PPWR). Historically, multi-layer films relied on complex, multi-polymer laminates (e.g., PET/AL/PE or BOPA/PE) to achieve the necessary gas, light, and moisture barrier properties. Gravure printing remains a preferred method for high-volume flexible packaging due to its deep ink transfer, high saturation, and consistent quality over long production runs. Precision-engraved copper cylinders transfer ink directly onto the substrate web at speeds of up to 300 meters per minute. Following printing, the composite step uses solvent-free lamination technology.
